Tragically but peacefully on Saturday 17th November 2018, at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, Barry, loving son of Elliot and Linda, and dear brother, uncle, grandson and friend to many. Service at John Beattie & Sons Funeral Directors on Friday 30th November 2018 at 11.45 am, followed by cremation at Borders Crematorium, Melrose at 1.00 pm, to which all family and friends are invited. Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, may be given in aid of the Critical Care Unit at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Was so sorry to hear the sad news, I have lots of happy memories of Barry at parties at my house with David Craig Graham and many more, sometimes having to tell them off lol. Sorry I can't be at the service on Friday but my thoughts are with you all at this awful time xx

I've known Barry since I was 17 always had good laughs with Barry. I've been living in England for the past 16 years it's was about 8 years ago I got in touch with Barry through Facebook ever since we kept in touch he would phone every little while as would I i had invited Barry to come down to England and stay a while with me and my family but sadly Barry declined last time I spoke to Barry was tail end of last summer he was out the front of his house cutting his grass and we talked about me and my family and what me and Barry and the rest of the ladsgot up to when we were younger I gave Barry my new mobile number I'm so sorry I'm just waffling on my heart goes out to you and all your family like all the rest of the lads I'm lost for words I'm coming up for the funeral it wouldn't be right if I didn't again my self and my family are so sorry for your loss. What should I wear?

We normally associate wearing black with going to a funeral. But it is increasingly typical for families to express a preferred dress code. Our advice is to look out for information from the family in a notice published either in newspapers, online or in the funeral director window to advise you of their preference.

How long does a service last?

Typically a service in most churches or crematoria lasts around 20-30 minutes. A formal mass may take a little longer and we would expect this to be nearer an hour. Finally, burials can vary in length as they are weather dependent.

Where should I sit?

Family and close friends typically reserve the first couple of rows in a service. We recommend sitting nearer the front than the back of a service space in order to support the family and enabling late arrivals to discreetly fill back rows.

Where should I send flowers?

Often a family will express a preference for flowers - or charity donations in lieu of flowers. We recommend you keep an eye on notices posted in newspapers, or online or in the funeral director window so you are able to follow their wishes.
